On the back of the Geneva Motor Show 2011, one of the industry’s leading supplier of car warranties, Warranty Direct complied a list of over 300 cars and gave them a reliability rating. They looked at live policies of cars aged between 3 and 7 years and included several factors including:
- Rate of failure
- Average mileage
- Average repair cost
The least reliable car was the Mercedes-Benz SL and has a Reliability Index Rating (RIR) of 349.
So what are the top ten most reliable cars in Europe?

Peugeot score a hat trick and take the crown with their 207 rated as Europe’s most reliable car scoring a rating of 22. Although the average repair costs were slightly dearer than other cars the incident rate was an impressive 6% (the Fiat Panda has an incident rate of 14%) our members rate the Peugeot 207 a respectable 3.8 out of 5 stars. The Renault Clio was rated the cheapest car to repair at only £173 on average, compare this to the most expensive claim under warranty, a whopping £7,239 for a BMW 7 Series problem.
